Musings On Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code -- Fact VS Fiction -- Was Jesus Mortal Or Divine?

The Malleus Maleficarum --

Known informally as "The Hammer of Witches" or "The Witches' Hammer," the Malleaus Maleficarum was written in the 15Th Century by two Catholic priests. The widely published work focused on how to ligate, torture, and murder women whom the Roman Catholic Church deemed to be witches.

In the recent movie The Da Vinci Code, an adaptation of the popular and provocative book by author Dan Brown, the Witches Hammer is mentioned briefly along with many other unsavory aspects of the Roman Catholic Church, which illustrate the Church's manipulation of doctrine for the purpose of consolidating and maintaining its powerful hold on Roman Catholics.

In particular, The Da Vinci Code asserts that the Lord Jesus Christ was in fact not divine as the Church has told Catholics for nearly two millennium, but instead a powerful, yet mortal being who was not only married, but also left an air apparent -- a child named Sarah, whom he conceived with his wife, Mary Magdalene shortly before his alleged Crucifixion.

Needless to say, the Roman Catholic Church has been less than pleased about this movie, even though Brown has represented it as a work of fiction. However, while a work of fiction, there is no doubt that Brown himself has included quite a bit of historical information in the Da Vinci Code, which does bring into question Jesus' own divinity.

The Da Vinci Code also asserts that based on the *Gospel of St. Philip, it was Mary Magdalene whom Jesus chose to continue his Church, and not St. Peter, as Roman Catholics have been told. Furthermore, the movie goes on to say that Mary Magdalene may well have written her own gospel, and that the reason that there were only four chosen to be included in the Bible, is that these were the only gospels which depicted Jesus as being divine.

One is also left with the impression, that prior to the Council of Nicaea, Jesus was considered to be a mortal being, and that only after this council had been convened and the Roman Catholic Bible created, that Jesus was then portrayed as having been divine.

The remaining gospels which the Council Of Nicaea chose to omit from the Bible painted Jesus as a powerful preacher, yet one who was clearly mortal; and more important, not the son of any god, or to be exact, the God to which the Bible refers.

The Da Vinci Code also asserts that the quest for the Holy Grail in reality had nothing to do with the chalice which Jesus was alleged to have drunk from at the alleged Last Supper, but instead concerned the womb of Mary Magdalene, which acted as the matrix for Jesus' progeny.

Perhaps what is of greatest interest in the Da Vinci Code is the premise that the myth known as the Priory Of Scion, was actually a real organization which was responsible for protecting the progeny of Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, from a group of despots within the Roman Catholic Church, who knew the truth about Jesus, and were l0oking to destroy any evidence which could prove that he was both mortal, married, and the father of a daughter.

As for the Witches Hammer, according to early pagan doctrine, the joining of men and women was seen as the way to Heaven. And for this reason, women were seen as being extremely powerful, and as such a direct threat to the Roman Catholic Church. For if women were seen as the way to Heaven, then the Church's monopoly on attaining Heaven through salvation through Jesus Christ would become heavily scrutinized, and result in the Roman Catholic Church's loss of power.

As a result of its fear of women who were intelligent and seeking to challenge the Church's dominance, at least fifty thousand were declared by the Church to be witches, and in one of the greatest atrocities in human history, burned at the stake.
