"Ashcroft Orders Full FBI Review After Blunders"

I have long stated that the FBI has always been a criminal enterprise masquerading as law enforcement. And that its agents operate without the necessary checks and balances required by the US Constitution, which have allowed for the creation of an organization that threatens the Civil Liberties and Human Rights of every American citizen.

The excerpt of a 2001 article from Reuters in which then Attorney General John Ashcroft berates the FBI and its members came only months before 9-11. It is interesting to note that at a time when the FBI was being widely criticized for failing as legitimate law enforcement, that attacks on 9-11 and the subsequent passing into legislation of the Patriot Act, would now endow this already seriously troubled organization with sweeping powers that it had never before had access to.

It is the equivalent of giving an arsonist who had access to a pack of matches and a single can of gas, unlimited access to every pack of matches and every can of gas int the country. The end result is going to be an explosion of Biblical proportions.

So is it any wonder that since 9-11 we now have citizens routinely complaining about being harassed by the FBI in what can only be referred to as its Gestapo tactics?

"Ashcroft Orders Full FBI Review After Blunders"
by Tabassum Zakaria (Reuters, June 20, 2001)

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - With the FBI (news - web sites) under fire from the Senate Judiciary Committee (news - web sites) for a series of blunders, Attorney General John Ashcroft (news - web sites) announced on Wednesday a comprehensive review'' of the federal law enforcement agency."

"Minutes before a committee hearing to consider how to restore confidence in the FBI, Ashcroft directed a high-level Justice Department (news - web sites) group called the Strategic Management Council to propose reforms by Jan.1. "

" 'The group, chaired by the deputy attorney general, should recommend actions aimed at improving and upgrading the performance of the FBI,' Ashcroft said in a memo calling for the review. "

"In the first in a series of hearings being held by new Democratic Chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont, the committee planned to focus on FBI polices and will review whether there is adequate oversight of it and how it can be improved. The FBI has long been considered a crown jewel of law enforcement agencies,'' Leahy said in opening the hearings. ''Unfortunately today it has lost a lot of its earlier luster.''

"He said the image of the FBI for too many Americans has become one of an agency that is 'unmanageable, unaccountable and unreliable. It's much vaunted independence has transformed for some into an image of insular arrogance,' he said. "
